Initiative to take down posters and flexes of independent candidates in general elections challenged in Lahore High Court

Posters and flyers are being taken down on the basis of being an independent candidate from PP-171. Stand of Petitioner Rana Sikandar Advocate

The move to take down the posters and flexes of independent candidates in the general elections was challenged in the Lahore High Court. Advocate Rana Sikandar, a hopeful from PP 171 provincial constituency of Lahore, has filed an application in this regard in the Lahore High Court. The petitioner challenged the decision of the administration to remove his posters and flyers in the constituency.

The petitioner took the stand that posters and flyers are being taken down on the basis of being an independent candidate from PP 171. Due to the measures taken by the administration, difficulties are being faced in conducting the election campaign. Posters and flexes are being taken down only on the basis of being an independent candidate. The petition requested that the administration be restrained from taking down the posters and flexes.

Apart from this, it issued a decision on the petition of Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Salman Akram Raja against declaring himself as an independent candidate from NA-128.

The decision said that the Dorkani bench sends the application to the Election Commission for hearing, the Election Commission should consider the application as a complaint and decide according to the law. After listening to the arguments of the parties on the application, Dorkani Banchane gave a late decision last night. The lawyer of the Election Commission had opposed the application in arguments. The Election Commission lawyer said that the Election Commission had rejected PTI's intra-party appeal, the Supreme Court had also rejected the appeal of Tehreek-e-Insaf, at that time there is no one in the chair of Tehreek-e-Insaf nor does it exist. There is no existence without heads.

The lawyer-petitioner said that Barrister Gohar issued the party ticket to him as the party chief. A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi issued a decision on the petition. Election Commission and others have been made parties in the application. The position adopted in the petition is that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been registered as a political party in the Election Commission since 1996, the petitioner is a PTI-backed candidate from NA-128, the court should declare the decision of the Election Commission to declare an independent candidate null and void. And order to list the candidate of PTI on the ballot paper.
