Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has demanded the caretaker government to increase the gas rates by 45 percent. Preparations are being made to increase the gas rates from October 1.
According to the details, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demanded to increase the gas rates by 45%, the sources said that the IMF demanded to raise the gas rates by 435 billion rupees.
Sources said that the IMF is not ready to give any discount in the increase of gas rates, while the caretaker government's efforts are ongoing to protect the small consumers of gas from the rate increase.
The government requested the IMF not to make gas expensive for small gas consumers.
The caretaker government began to formulate strategies to save 64 percent of gas consumers, sources said, adding that the hike in gas rates will be effective from July 1.
Preparations are underway to increase gas rates by 45% from October 1, gas consumers will clear July-September dues in October-December bills.
According to sources, the increase in gas rates will be applicable to large domestic consumers as well, while gas is likely to be expensive for commercial consumers, ovens and hotels, CNG, fertilizer factories and the steel industry.
